The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 because of its negative effects on the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and doesn’t contain chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Clackamas because it’ll help make your cooling system work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally out of production. The old refrigerant will become rare in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Central Air Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. Be sure to steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
